Playlist: December 2013

The year is over, and seeing as I've only been doing this playlist thing since November I'm not going to even attempt to do my favourite songs of the year (albums of the year are coming up) but here's December's 'list! YEAHHH.

1. Spinning Out - Valencia
Valencia are a band I didn't get into until it was slightly too late, and their short life had expired. That, however, doesn't mean that I can't enjoy their most beautiful music.
2. Resuscitation Of A Dead Man - Thursday
Another group who sadly aren't around, Thursday, but still happen to be on my iPod. Oh, happy reminiscing.
3. Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too - Say Anything
A band that actually aren't extinct! And what a band they are too, which is good! So many memories locked away inside '... Is A Real Boy' and it's nice to relive some of them.
4. Christmas at 22 - The Wonder Years
It's TWY, and it's a Christmas song. Need I say more?
5. 1949 - Mallory Knox
It was the morning after watching a full day of The Ashes, and I had to go in for a Functional Programming lecture. I thought Selly Sausage would be open but ended up getting a bacon thing in Spar and sitting in the Guild listening to this. Don't listen to sad songs after 0 sleep.
6. Carribean War Syndrome - Twin Atlantic
I used to properly love Twin, and I still do in some way - but CWS is a total tune that they haven't really lived up to in a while.
7. Hold It Together - Cold Crows Dead
The ever brilliant Murray Macleod makes up one half of Cold Crows Dead, and new co-conspirator Paul Steel makes up the other. The album was released this month and was really good so go buy it.
8. adeadenemyalwayssmellsgood - Future of the Left
I'm pretty sure this song sums up why people love FotL, I always think that there's a football chant in there somewhere...
9. Hey Brother - Avicii
I had absolutely no idea what this was for a while after I heard it but dance-electro-weird-folky stuff is WICKED so, onto the playlist with you!
10. Glue Me - Los Campesinos!
I travelled down to London (which apparently takes a lot more time and money than you expect, even if you get tickets there and back for £8) to see LC! and hearing so many people chant in their football songy ways at a rock gig was pretty damn cool.
11. Fairytale of New York - The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl
Well, at the big reunion B*Witched did a cover of this with some fella from Boyzone (I think), but it was all out of time and a bit odd, so the moment I got home I fired up my record player and played my 25th anniversary 7". It was bliss.
12. Just A Little - Liberty X
So this is mainly on here because of the Big Reunion tour but also because it's a massive tune.
13. Sowing Season - Brand New
I don't care what Spotify wants to call it, it's name is 'Sowing Season' and what with Brand New announcing a tour and all (and my parents' present to me to allow me to follow them on sort of all of the dates) they deserve a place in my playlist always.
14. Closer - Tegan and Sara
The twins' album was one I needed to catch up with for my 'albums of the year' list and the album opener is pretty fucking great.
15. Lost Your Name - Balance & Composure
I LOVE THIS SONG AND I LOVE THIS ALBUM. Another one I needed to catch up with and I'm always so sorry I don't listen to them more. Luv me B&C.
16. Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin' Stevens
Self-explanatory. Plus the one that I tend to sing. YAY. I HOPE Y'ALL HAD A NICE CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR YAY.
